Jim and Ken’s Great Adventure - Day 1 - Santiago

I am sitting here in my chair back in California wanting to share my pictures and adventures with you and I am wondering how can I do it? How can I fully express and share with you what I have lived and seen? I have truly been blessed to have been able to see so much awesome and marvelous things that this earth has to offer. At the beginning of this month my brother came I showed him around my favorite places in Santiago, then my father came down and we spent two days together. From there my brother and I went to Argentina where we saw tango, visited the capital and our previous home while taking a walk down memory lane then went on to visit the world's largest waterfalls. We saw a wide variety of animals, greatness and power.

So how can I share that with you? I have come to the conclusion that I can do so only one day at a time. I have organized my pictures into a folder a day and I am going to go at it a day at a time.

Day 1 - Santiago
1

Jim came down and I got him picked up at the airport. It was really nice to see my brother after being away from home since May. I got him settled in and introduced him to my Chilean mother Ximena, pronounced He-men-ah.

I wasn't sure if Jim would be tired or not when he got here so I left the day pretty much open, but as it turned out he came wanting to get out and get to know the city that I have come to love. So with that in mind we rushed off to the metro station to get down town.

They got some funny stores in Chile, such as this - FUCHS!

We took the metro down to Casa de Moneda (translated literally as the House of Money) which is like the Chilean version of the Federal Reserve. We were surprised to find the military band playing and found out that it was the Day of Peru. Although I didn't really understand the event it was neat to see.

Along with the locals we decided to take a tour of the building, which was more of a walk in the courtyard.

11

We thought it'd be nice to sit down for a while but were quickly told that the bench wasn't for sitting on ... it was a surprise for us, but went on our way.

12

We headed down some of the walking streets towards the Plaza de Armas ...

13

... where we sat and watched the local artists paint for a while.

14

From there we hopped back on the metro to the Baquedano station which is near the Cerro San Cristobal where the Virgin Mary statue is found.

The week that Jim came down was the same week that the Chilean students got out for winter break. It seemed that it had occurred to everyone to take their children to here. We quickly found our way to the lifts and side stepped at the kids at the entrance.

18

They were doing some repairs there and I was able to catch some of the action.

Once we got up there the view was great , but we were quickly surrounded by kids that were amazed by the tall American guys. The loved the camera and I took this picture of them making faces at us.

To finish the day we met back up with Ximena, Lily (her daughter) and Alejandro for dinner. It was a great way to finish up the day.

In the next blog - Our father came down and we went up to the mountains to visit some hot springs to relax.
