California: Alcatraz

Amy and I went to California for the weekend for an open house for my friends and family that couldn’t make it to Utah for my wedding. It was really great to see all of my friends that came out and supported me there. On Sunday we went to San Francisco for the morning before returning to Utah. We went to Alcatraz.

We had a good boat ride and enjoyed the view of the city behind us.

We took a guided tour for the first hour and saw parts of the prison that isn’t open to the public.

9

Then we went on a audio self-guided tour of the prison. It was being in a documentary as they guided you through the prison and told us stories along the way.

Amy acted as a prison here.

On a yearly average they get 3000 guests to the prison each day.

They said that the punishment of Alcatraz wasn’t just that they were away from friends and family serving time on an island, but rather that they could here the noise from the streets of San Francisco. The prisoners could see the fireworks for New Years and that was the real punishment of Alcatraz.

We had a really enjoyable time and would recommend the trip to anyone.
