My girlfriend and I went to Moab this weekend past weekend and visited our National Parks. This is something that I have really tried to do while here in Utah - get to know the beauty that surrounds me. I love to travel and visit other countries, but I feel that I have travel other countries more than my own. So when ever I get a chance to get out and experience this great country of ours I do.
We left Utah County Friday after I got out of class and drove the four hours to Moab. We went into the park and registered for their guided tour of Fiery Furnace and then hurried to see the sunset at the very picturesque Delicate Arch.
We had a good hike down from the Arch and went and check into the little hostel, Lazy Lizard Hostel. We were actually pretty lucky to get a place because I had called the night before and they were all full because of jeep week. We got some bunk beds on the same room with 6 or 7 others.
We left to get some food in town and enjoy all the hustle and bustle of the tourism season. We got back to the hostel around 11:30 to find that someone had taken Amy's bed. There were some empty beds, but we didn't want to take someone else bed so we got the manager and straighten things out ... Amy just slept in another bed. I wish I could say that I had a good nights rest and that it was great, but unfortunately the same man that took Amy's bed snored ALL night, it was horrible. I got up around 2:00 and walked around hoping that he would stop snoring. When I resigned to get back to bed and try sleeping again one of the other guys walked out and was headed to his car.
It was then that the one person snoring suddenly turned into three people snoring and that was it. I stood up to see if Amy was sleeping and she couldn't either. We talked a little and one of the guys farted and that was the last draw - we were out of there.
I drove us to Canyonlands where we watched the sunrise through Mesa Arch.
It was really neat watching the sunrise here because I met Rodney Lough, someone I hadn't heard of before. He is an amazing photographer and has some wonderful work in three galleries across the nation. Check out his website at www.theloughroad.com.
Amy was ready to get back to sleep.
We went back to Moab and went for a drive along the Colorado River and found these climbers bouldering. They were a group of great guys and were really fun to photograph. I wish I could do this but I am content just taking pictures of them.
We had our tour at 2:00 so after getting some food and relaxing we went back into Arches National Park and went to Fiery Furnance for our three our guided tour. Robert Wallace from Colorado took us around and told us about the park and it's formation. He was really animated and made things really interesting and told some stories about the park and it's first visitors.
These last arches were Kissing Turtles Arch. Can you see the turtle formations?
We had a really enjoyable time and packed every moment with something fun and new. Eventhough Amy grew up in Utah she had never been to this part of Utah, so I was more than happy to introduce her to my favorite park.
